Capstone Documentary

In order to create my documentary I used prezi again because I find it to be a very creative and easy to use program to create presentations with. I basically highlighted my topic and discussed the problem and provided solutions. Below is the link to my documentary on youtube.

Presentation Proposal

The topic of my project as you all know is health literacy. Many patients don't really understand what the doctor or nurse has explained to them. This leads to many problems and accidents. For my official presentation I want to put brochures or flyers on the table that will pretty much outline what my project is basically about. I also want to have some large photographs that will grab peoples attention. I feel that little things can really spruce up your project. I'm pretty much done with my website and poster. I just need to add a few things into my website which I will do later this week. So basically I just need to print my poster and create my flyer/brochure.

Capstone PSA

I created my PSA using Prezi. I found this software to be quite creative because you can do many different things with it. You can show different points of views and format it in cool ways. Basically what I did was put my main points and possible solutions about Health Literacy. The screen moves from point to point making it a live presentation.

This PSA I thought is very informative because it not only addresses the problem but also shows you a way to solve it. I felt that the video and audio were appropriate for this topic. It shows a kid being bullied while others around him are encouraging it. Then it shows a few kids coming to help the kid that is being bullied. It presented the message very clearly. Overall I thought this PSA presented the problem in an effective way.

I also really liked this PSA in terms of effectiveness because it gave you an example of the problem and how you can be affected by it. It basically gave you a warning of possible outcomes of posting pictures of yourself online.

Thinking Ahead- Capstone Presentation

The most nerve wrecking part of the capstone for me will be presenting my project to the judges. I'll know all the information but it'll be hard for me to get it out of my mind clearly in a way the judges will understand what my goal is. I will have a poster that will generally explain the topic. My initial plan was to create a database that I would present through a laptop but now I'm not sure that I would be able to create a database in the time frame that we are given. I think the poster should be attention grabbing so that when the judges walk by they would want to know what the poster is about. The "Presentation Zen" website says that presenting data clearly, visually and simply is the best way to get your point across. I find this to be very true because having too much stuff going in your presentation kind of kills the purpose.

This website talking about managing your fears of presenting. If you look or feel nervous it will show to the audience. Then the audience will focus more on you being nervous rather than what your presentation is actually about.

This website discussed using visual aides and how they should be used. PowerPoints are quite popular in presentations but sometimes the presenter begins to read directly off the slide and it tends to get boring.

How the presenter dresses is a very easy way to help your presentation succeed. If the presenter is dressed professionally it will give a good impression to the audience. Very little things like this can either  help you or hurt you.
There are numerous ways someone can enhance their presentations just with a little research.

Capstone Poster

This week I created a poster for my Capstone Project. I used photoshop to create it. I put an image across the middle of my poster to kind of give an idea about what the topic is. I also felt that the image helps attract peoples' attention. I also have a large title that makes a statement. I wrote a statistic and some general information about my topic to give the reader an understanding of what I want to do.

Health Literacy

 My topic for my Capstone project is Health Literacy. Nearly 9 out of 10 adults have difficulty using basic health information that is routinely available in health care facilities, retail outlets, media, and communities. Limited health literacy causes poorer health outcomes and higher health care costs. Low literacy, an aging population, popularity of chronic conditions, and a complicated health care system influence and magnify health disparities in the United States. Economics is the allocation of scarce resources. Health-related activities consume a large portion of economic resources of modern societies, such as the United States, in the production and distribution of health care. Health care comes at a price. It represents a major commitment of resources: time, energy, skill development, raw materials, and capital, which then become unavailable for other forms of production. Physical environment can affect one's ability to obtain, process, and understand basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions. The illiteracy of basic health information causes major health problems. Efforts will be stimulated to make health literacy a component of training for health professionals. Awareness and assessment of health literacy will be made a part of provider systems and quality analysis. Improving health literacy is a tool for improving health and health care in America. It is both a process and an outcome. Creating a truly health-literate America is a challenge requiring leadership, strategy, cooperation, and most importantly, a democracy with citizens who are well informed. It may not be easy, but it is the right goal for health policy. I want to become a clinical lab technician, and I feel that this topic very much relates to my career because the patients sometimes do not understand their diagnosis and what problems they are facing medically. When they do not understand it slows their recovery down. This project gives back to the society because it really does raise awareness and allows people to ask for help. Health literacy is very important because if people make mindless mistakes in taking their prescription because they didn't understand how much or how to take it, it could easily cost them their lives.
